My Mom’s Story

When one has a loved one who takes ill, both the patient and the family members need some attention. This is something I only discovered after having taken my mother to Sunninghill Recovery Lodge.

.

My mother had gone through a most unfortunate experience after her operation and during her stay at a step-down facility. She still required special attention as well as continuous nursing as part of her recovery. At the time I realised that because she was not adequately mobile, it would be very difficult to attend to her on my own. Although I had explored the option of hiring a carer, there were a few aspects that I was not comfortable with.

.

That was when I discovered the ideal solution right here in Sunninghill that would be perfect for my mom’s stay after discharge from the step-down facility: The Sunninghill Recovery Lodge, From the moment my mom arrived there she felt more peaceful and she was relieved that I would be able to be with her during her stay. Ann-Margret and her outstanding staff welcomed us into their peaceful environment and presented my mom with a magnificent vase of white roses. Her face lit up for the first time since her ordeal. The staff were enormously supportive and caring of my mother and going there was the right choice. They also made me feel so much more confident and became an enormous help to me. At the time I felt that there was nothing that these angels could do to make our stay there a healthy and peaceful one.

.

However, it was only after our stay there that I realised that Ann-Margaret and her staff were doing a lot more than what I had initially realised. Not only were they seeing to my mother, but they had been looking after me too. In a sense, I was also a patient. They made sure that I was comfortable, they made sure that I ate even when I claimed not to be hungry, they stood by me all the time. I will forever be grateful to Ann-Margaret for permitting my daughter to visit us and spend valuable time with my mother; whilst still adhering to all COVID-19 regulations and guidelines. This was a time when we three as a family needed to be together. It was a difficult and painful time, and the staff of the Sunninghill Recovery Lodgefound themselves with three patients.

.

Sadly, my mother passed away. My daughter and I draw great consolation in knowing that those last times together were so special and that my mom was peaceful and with loved ones at the end. We would not have had that time had it not been for this magnificent facility and these truly compassionate and kind-hearted people.
